Field Day is an annual event held by amateur radio operators
(also known as "hams") to practice and demonstrate their emergency
communication skills. It typically takes place over a period of 24 to 48 hours
on the fourth full weekend in June.
During Field Day, hams set up temporary radio stations in
outdoor locations, often using portable equipment and emergency power sources
such as generators or batteries. The goal is to make as many contacts with
other hams as possible, using various modes of communication, including voice,
digital, and morse code.
Field Day is a way for hams to test their skills and
equipment, to learn about emergency communication and preparedness, and to
demonstrate the capabilities of amateur radio to the general public. It is also
a social event, with many hams coming together to share their knowledge and
experiences and to have fun. Field Day is organized by the American Radio Relay
League (ARRL) and is open to all licensed amateur radio operators.
