The CQ Worldwide VHF Contest is an international amateur
radio contest that takes place annually in July. The contest is organized by CQ
Magazine and is sponsored by the CQ Amateur Radio Club.
The CQ Worldwide VHF Contest is specifically for
communication on the very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF)
bands, which are typically used for short-distance and line-of-sight
communication. The contest is open to all licensed amateur radio operators and
is held on a weekend to allow for maximum participation.
During the contest, radio operators attempt to make as many
contacts as possible with other operators on the VHF and UHF bands. Points are
awarded for each contact based on the distance between the two stations and the
mode of communication used. Radio operators can participate in the CQ Worldwide
VHF Contest as individuals or as part of a team.
The CQ Worldwide VHF Contest is popular among amateur radio
operators because it provides an opportunity to test their skills and
equipment, to make new contacts, and to learn about different cultures and
geography. It is also a way for ham radio operators to share their knowledge
and skills with others and promote the hobby of amateur radio.
