CQWPX is a series of international amateur radio contests annually
in March, May, and September. The contests are organized by CQ Magazine and are
sponsored by the CQ Amateur Radio Club.
There are three main contests in the CQ WPX series: the CQ
WPX RTTY Contest, which is for digital communication using the Radio Teletype
(RTTY) mode; the CQ WPX SSB Contest, which is for voice communication using
single sideband (SSB) modulation; and the CQ WPX CW Contest, which is for morse
code communication. All three contests are open to all licensed amateur radio
operators.
Radio operators can participate in the CQ WPX contests as
individuals or as part of a team. During the contests, radio operators attempt
to make as many contacts as possible with other operators in different
countries and regions. Points are awarded for each contact based on the
distance between the two stations and the mode of communication used.
The CQ WPX contests are popular among amateur radio operators
because they allow them to test their skills and equipment, make new contacts,
and learn about different cultures and geography. They are also a way for ham
radio operators to share their knowledge and skills with others and promote the
hobby of amateur radio.
