In radio communication, MHz (megahertz) is a unit of measurement for radio frequency. Radio waves in the frequency range of 3 MHz to 30 MHz are typically referred to as high frequency (HF) or shortwave, while frequencies above 30 MHz are referred to as very high frequency (VHF) or ultra-high frequency (UHF). Different radio communication applications use different frequency ranges. For example, AM radio stations in the United States operate in the frequency range of 530 kHz to 1710 kHz (or 0.53 MHz to 1.71 MHz), while FM radio stations operate in the frequency range of 88 MHz to 108 MHz. Two-way radios commonly used by emergency services and other organizations operate in the VHF and UHF ranges, typically between 30 MHz and 512 MHz.
