The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) is a
federation of national amateur radio societies worldwide. It was founded in
1925 to promote amateur radio operators' interests and provide a forum for
cooperation and the exchange of information among its member societies. The
IARU works to protect and promote the interests of amateur radio, including the
allocation of frequency bands for amateur use and the establishment of
technical standards for amateur radio equipment. The IARU also represents the
interests of amateur radio operators at international organizations such as the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
IARU Regions
The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) is divided into three regions: Region 1, Region 2, and Region 3. Each region is responsible for representing the interests of amateur radio operators in a specific part of the world.
Region 1 includes Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Northern Asia. Region 2 includes the Americas. Region 3 includes Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania.
The IARU regions are responsible for coordinating and organizing international amateur radio activities, including the allocation of frequency bands and the development of technical standards. They also work to protect the interests of amateur radio operators and promote the hobby of amateur radio around the world.
