SSTV (Slow Scan Television) is a method of transmitting and displaying still images over radio frequencies. It is often used by amateur radio operators to exchange pictures and graphics with each other.
In SSTV, an image is divided into horizontal scan lines, transmitted one at a time over a radio frequency. The receiving station converts the radio signals into images by reassembling the scan lines. SSTV is called a "slow scan" because the process of transmitting and displaying an image takes longer than it does with a conventional television signal.
There are several different SSTV modes, which
vary in terms of resolution, color depth, and transmission speed. SSTV is often
used on amateur radio bands, particularly on the 20-meter (14 MHz) and 40-meter
(7 MHz) bands. It is a popular activity among ham radio operators because it
allows them to exchange images and graphics with each other and to share their
interests and experiences.
