The NØIZ/KH1 DXpedition in 1988 was an amateur radio
operation from Howland Island. Howland Island is a small, uninhabited island in
the Pacific Ocean that the United States administers as an unincorporated
territory. The operators operated from Howland Island and used the call sign
NØIZ/KH1. A group of amateur radio operators organized this DXpedition. The
goal of the DXpedition was to give radio amateurs worldwide an opportunity to
make contact with Howland Island, which is considered a rare location for
amateur radio operators to reach. Howland Island DXpeditions are considered
rare and challenging due to the island's remote location and the difficulties
of getting permission and logistics to operate from such a small and remote
island.
