Amateur Radio In Japan

In Japan, amateur radio (also known as ham radio) is regulated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC). The MIC issues licenses to individuals who wish to operate amateur radio stations and sets the rules and regulations that govern the use of amateur radio in Japan.

To obtain an amateur radio license in Japan, individuals must pass a written examination administered by the MIC. There are three classes of amateur radio licenses in Japan: 1st class, 2nd class, and 3rd class. The 1st class license is the highest level of amateur radio license and allows the holder to operate all amateur radio frequencies. The 2nd class license allows the holder to operate on certain amateur radio frequencies, and the 3rd class license allows the holder to operate on a limited range of frequencies.

Individuals who wish to operate an amateur radio station in Japan must also register their station with the MIC. In addition, amateur radio operators in Japan are required to follow certain rules and regulations when operating their stations, such as using appropriate language, not causing interference to other radio communications, and following any other rules and regulations set forth by the MIC.
