73 Magazine
73 Magazine (also known as 73 Amateur Radio Today) was based in the United States of America and focused on amateur radio published from 1960 to 2003. It was known for its strong emphasis on technical articles such as electromagnetic radiation, antennas, integrated circuits, amplifiers, synthesizers, and solar panels. The lengthy editorials in each issue by its founder and publisher, Wayne Green. The magazine promoted emerging technologies as do-it-yourself projects, while some of the magazines focused on criticizing the American Radio Relay League. Green, a former editor of CQ Amateur Radio magazine, published the first issue in October 1960 from his office in Brooklyn, New York, and moved 73 headquarters to Peterborough, New Hampshire in 1962.
Their publications continued monthly with contributing
editors such as Ken Sessions and Jean Shepherd until their last publication in
2003. The founder cited financial reasons as the cause for closure after
failing to publish a planned October/November issue. The financial pressure was
from reduced advertising revenue.
